Drop-in Art Making: With Herb Massie

April 6, 2024, 11 a.m.–1 p.m.
Reflections of Sybby Grant, USA, Marylalnd, Baltimore, 2018. Museum purchase, 2023, acc. no. 43.57

Join us at the Walters for free art-making activities! Art, like monuments, can be used to remind us of people, places, or events. This lesson, written in collaboration with Baltimore artist Herb Massie, invites you to create a monument to commemorate a special memory. All ages are welcome.

In this special edition of Drop-in Art Making, we’ll be joined by artist Herb Massie! Massie is a teaching artist from Baltimore. In 2016 the Maryland State Arts Council named him the recipient of the Sue Hess Maryland Arts Advocate of the Year Award. With well over 25 years of experience, in addition to teaching at Clayworks and Jubilee Arts, Massie has hosted ceramic workshops and classes in Baltimore City schools, with teens, adults, and community elders, as well as people in addiction recovery and those formerly incarcerated

Drop-in Art Making is made possible thanks to generous support from BGE and The Walters Women’s Committee Legacy Endowment.
